Is Native American ancestry easy to detect in DNA?

Yes. Native American (Amerindian) ancestry is one of the clearest signals in a DNA test. It is a large, distinct continental component, genetically very different from European and African ancestry, so even a small percentage tends to show up rather than disappear. If you carry it, you will usually see it.

How it actually works (and where it is not magic)

We think you should know exactly how the result is produced:

  • 1. Your raw DNA. You upload your file (23andMe, AncestryDNA, MyHeritage, FTDNA, LivingDNA). We read your autosomal markers.
  • 2. Global25 coordinates. Your DNA is summarised into 25 numbers (G25) that capture your genome, or you can paste your own real G25 from Davidski for even more accuracy.
  • 3. Similarity modelling. We measure how close those numbers are to documented reference populations and find the best-fitting combination.
  • 4. Your report. Your percentages, closest populations, an interactive map, your Y-DNA and mtDNA lineages and an AI-written story, in one PDF.

Being honest: this is a statistical similarity model, not a direct readout of your ancestors. Big continental signals (Native American, Sub-Saharan African, East Asian) are reliable; fine splits within Northwestern Europe (British vs German vs French) overlap heavily and are best-fit estimates; and where a people has no public DNA reference, we model you on named proxies and say so. No DNA test can prove tribal membership or name a single ancestor.

A few percent of Native American ancestry is consistent with one Indigenous ancestor several generations back, exactly the family story many people are trying to confirm.
