How this works. The large majority of results here are sourced from a published academic study or a well-documented historical founder lineage, never from scraped personal genealogy data. A small number of entries are clearly marked "⚠️ Unverified, not peer-reviewed": these are community-submitted results (e.g. a single family's own test, or an independent researcher's unpublished preprint) that we include transparently, but that have not been through academic peer review, unlike the rest of the database. A surname match, verified or not, means some people with that surname were found to share a haplogroup, most likely due to a shared patrilineal ancestor generations back. It is not proof that you personally carry that haplogroup: surnames change through adoption, remarriage, non-paternity events, and independent origin of the same name in different families.
