Log in to Your FTDNA Account

Go to www.familytreedna.com and sign in with your kit number or email and password.

2

Access Your Account Settings

Once logged in, click on your name in the top-right corner to open the dropdown menu. Select Account Settings or go directly to the Settings page.

3

Find the Raw Data Download

In the Settings menu, look for Privacy & Security or Download Raw Data section. FTDNA may also have this option under DNA Data or in the main dashboard.

FTDNA offers different download formats. For use with our calculators, select the Build 37 Raw Data option (also known as GRCh37/hg19). You may also choose Build 36 if Build 37 is not available.

5

Confirm and Download

Click the download button. Depending on your account settings, you may need to confirm your password or verify via email. The file will download as a CSV or gzipped file.

6

Extract if Necessary

If your file is compressed (ends in .gz), you'll need to extract it using a tool like 7-Zip (Windows), The Unarchiver (Mac), or your operating system's built-in extractor.

FTDNA File Formats

FTDNA provides raw data in a concatenated format. The file includes chromosome, position, and genotype information that works well with most third-party tools.

If you have both Family Finder and Big Y results, you may see options to download each separately.
